Planets are said to be badly placed when they are eclipsed, debilitated (occupy a depression sign or Amsa), when they are posited in the house of an enemy, or when they occupy the 8th, the 6th, or the 12th house. In other positions, they are said to be well-placed. If the Moon be in the 12th, 11th, 1st, 6th, 5th, or the 7th house at the time of a query about water in a big irrigation project, increase of water can safely be predicted.

ग्रह दुष्ट-स्थित (निर्बल) तब कहलाते हैं जब — (१) ग्रहण-ग्रस्त हों (सूर्य द्वारा अस्त), (२) नीच राशि या अंश में हों, (३) शत्रु-घर में हों, (४) अष्टम, षष्ठ या द्वादश भाव में हों। अन्य स्थानों में स्थित होने पर उन्हें शुभ-स्थित कहते हैं। यदि प्रश्न-काल में किसी बड़ी सिंचाई-योजना में जल-वृद्धि के विषय में पूछा जाये और चन्द्रमा द्वादश, एकादश, प्रथम, षष्ठ, पंचम या सप्तम भाव में हो तो जल-वृद्धि निश्चित कह सकते हैं।
