अतोऽवरा वरात् कन्य सेव्यतः सेवकोऽवरः ।
गुणैस्ततः सुखोत्पत्तिरन्यथा हानिरेव हि

guṇaistataḥ sukhotpattiranyathā hānireva hi

If the bridegroom has better attributes than the bride and the master has better attributes than the servant, there will be mutual affection (regard for each other) and happiness. If the bride or the servant possesses better attributes, the relationships will be full of bitterness.

अतोऽवरा वरात् कन्या सेव्यतः सेवको नरः । गुणैस्ततः सुखोत्पत्तिरन्यथा हानिरेव हि । ।13।। अतः वर श्रेष्ठ प्रकृति व कन्या उसके निकटस्थ प्रकृति, सेव्य (स्वामी) व सेवक में भी देखें । इस तरह सम्बन्ध रखने से सुख मिलता है । अन्यथा हानि होती है ।
