The quantity of oil in the lamp will vary with the portion to be traversed by the Moon in the sign entered upon. The wick is to be guessed from the Lagna, i.e., will vary with the portion of the rising sign still below the horizon. The character of the lamp is to be guessed from the character of the sign occupied by the Sun, i.e., whether the light is moveable, fixed or both, is to be declared from the nature of the Rasi in which the Sun is. The door of the lying-in-chamber is to be guessed by means of the planets occupying the Kendra positions or rather by means of those that are possessed of strength; i.e., when more than one planet occupy the Kendra positions, the door must be guessed by the strongest of them; when there are no planets in the Kendras, find which of the Kendras is strongest, and the direction faced by the door is guessed accordingly.

दीपक में तेल की मात्रा चन्द्र के उस राशि में शेष बचे भाग के अनुसार होगी जिसमें वह प्रवेश कर चुकी है। बाती का अनुमान लग्न से — अर्थात् उदय हो रही राशि के क्षितिज के नीचे शेष बचे भाग से — होगा। दीपक का स्वभाव — चल, स्थिर या दोनों — सूर्य की राशि के स्वभाव से जानें। प्रसव-कक्ष का द्वार केन्द्र में स्थित बलवान ग्रहों से ज्ञात होगा; यदि एक से अधिक ग्रह केन्द्र में हों, तो सबसे बलवान से द्वार की दिशा बताएँ; यदि केन्द्र में कोई ग्रह न हो तो जो केन्द्र सबसे बलवान हो उससे दिशा बताएँ।
