The fullness or otherwise of the effect of a planet occupying any of the 12 houses, viz., Lagna, 2nd, 3rd, etc., must be judged by a consideration of the exact nature of the sign occupied by the planet, i.e., whether it is in a friendly or in an inimical sign, or in the house of a neutral planet, or whether the planet in question is occupying his own or his exaltation Rasi. Satyacharya says that benefics posited in any house generally promote the advancement or prosperity of that house while malefics in any house work only its decay. This is reversed in the case of the 6th, 8th and 12th houses.

12 भावों — लग्न, द्वितीय, तृतीय आदि — में से किसी में अधिष्ठित ग्रह के फल की पूर्णता अथवा अन्यथा, उस ग्रह द्वारा अधिष्ठित राशि के सटीक स्वरूप के विचार से आँकी जानी चाहिए, अर्थात् वह मित्र अथवा शत्रु राशि में है, अथवा सम ग्रह के भाव में है, अथवा प्रश्नगत ग्रह अपनी स्व अथवा अपनी उच्च राशि में है। सत्याचार्य कहते हैं कि किसी भाव में अधिष्ठित शुभ ग्रह सामान्यतः उस भाव की उन्नति अथवा समृद्धि को बढ़ाते हैं, जबकि किसी भाव में पाप ग्रह केवल उसके क्षय का कार्य करते हैं। यह 6ठे, 8वें और 12वें भावों के मामले में विपरीत होता है।
