If a malefic planet owning the 5th house be in that house, the person concerned will have children. When that house is occupied by a malefic, the person will have sons in plenty. If a benefic planet should occupy the 5th house and at the same time own that sign or be in exaltation there, the result is loss of children. The signs Vrischika, Kanya and Simha when they happen to represent the 5th house are termed childless Rasis and a person born under such a condition will be of very limited progeny and this too will be accomplished only after a long interval.

यदि कोई पाप-ग्रह पंचम स्थान का स्वामी होकर उसी स्थान में हो तो पुत्र हो; लेकिन यदि कोई शुभ-ग्रह स्वराशि का स्वामी होकर पंचम में हो और साथ ही पंचम में पाप-ग्रह हो तो सन्तान नष्ट करेगा। कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि पाप-ग्रह यदि स्वराशि का हो तो अपने स्थान को नहीं बिगाड़ता, किन्तु यदि दूसरे घर में बैठा हो तो जिस घर में बैठता है उसको बिगाड़ता है। वृष, सिंह, कन्या और वृश्चिक अल्प सुत (कम सन्तान वाली) राशि कहलाती है। यदि यह राशियाँ पंचम में हों तो थोड़ी सन्तति होगी और वह भी बहुत समय के बाद।
