With reference to his Ashtakavarga, the Sun is declared exceedingly auspicious in the 1st, the 2nd, the 4th, the 7th, the 8th, the 9th, the 10th and 11th places from himself, from Mars and from Saturn; in the 5th, the 6th, the 9th and 11th places from Jupiter; in the 6th, the 7th and the 12th places from Venus; in the 3rd, the 5th, the 6th, the 9th, the 10th, the 11th and the 12th from Mercury; in the 3rd, the 6th, the 10th and the 11th places from the Moon; and lastly, in the 3rd, the 4th, the 6th, the 10th, the 11th and the 12th places from the Lagna.

सूर्य का अष्टकवर्ग — सूर्य अपने स्थान से १-२-४-७-८-९-१०-११ स्थानों में शुभ होता है, इस कारण जिस राशि में जन्मकालीन सूर्य है उस राशि से इन स्थानों में बिन्दु लगाइये। इसी प्रकार चन्द्रमा से ३-६-१०-११ स्थानों पर सूर्य शुभ है; मंगल से और शनि से भी १-२-४-७-८-९-१०-११ स्थानों में सूर्य शुभ है; बृहस्पति से ५-६-९-११ स्थानों पर सूर्य उत्तम फल देता है; शुक्र से ६-७-१२ स्थानों पर शुभ है; जन्मकालीन बुध से ३-५-६-९-१०-११-१२ स्थानों में शुभ है; और लग्न से ३-४-६-१०-११-१२ स्थानों में शुभ बिन्दु लगाइये। इस प्रकार सूर्य के अष्टकवर्ग में कुल ४८ बिन्दु पड़ते हैं — सूर्य से ८, चन्द्रमा से ४, मंगल से ८, बुध से ७, बृहस्पति से ४, शुक्र से ३, शनि से ८ और लग्न से ६।
