In this Kalachakra system consisting of Dasas, Apaharas, etc., I shall now expound the formulas for the several Nakshatra padas from Aswini onwards. Every such formula consists of nine syllables indicating by their number as per Katapayadi mnemonics the particular Rasyapaharas composing the Dasa of the Nakshatrapada under consideration, and consequently the total life-period appertaining thereto by means of the years allotted to the several Rasi-owners.

कालचक्र दशा में किस नक्षत्र चरण में पैदा होने से कौन-कौन सी दशा किस क्रम से आती है — जिस नक्षत्र चरण में जन्म हो उसके लिये जिन राशियों की दशा नीचे बताई गई है — उन दशाओं का जोड़ (कुल वर्ष) उस जातक की परमायु होती है। राशियों का क्रम कटपयादि क्रम से बताया गया है। संस्कृत में प्राचीन शैली में अक्षरों से संख्या बताई जाती थी, इसे कटपयादि क्रम कहते हैं। कटपयादि का अक्षर-संख्या कोष्ठक इस प्रकार है — १ क, ख, ग, घ, ङ; ६ च, छ, ज, झ, ञ; १ ट, ठ, ड, ढ, ण; ६ त, थ, द, ध, न; १ प, फ, ब, भ, म; १ य, र, ल, व; ६ श, ष, स, ह — इत्यादि।
