All planets are strong when they are in exaltation. The Moon is strong and auspicious when she has her full Paksha bala and the Sun when he has his full Dig-bala (i.e., when he is in the 10th house or the Meridian). The other five non-luminous planets are strong when they are retrograde. Rahu in Karkataka, Vrishabha, Mesha, Kumbha and Vrischika and Ketu in Meena, Kanya, Vrishabha and the later half of Dhanus, in Parivesha and Indra-chapa are strong if there be a conjunction of the Moon and the Sun and the time be night.

सब ग्रह तुंगी (उच्च) होने से बली होते हैं। चन्द्रमा के पक्ष-बल को विशेष महत्त्व देना चाहिये। सूर्य के दिग्बल को मुख्यता है, और अन्य ग्रहों के वक्र बल की। राहु — कर्क, वृषभ, मेष, कुम्भ और वृश्चिक में, तथा केतु — मीन, कन्या, वृषभ और धनु के उत्तरार्ध में, और परिवेष तथा इन्द्रचाप में बलवान् होते हैं — यदि रात्रि का समय हो और सूर्य तथा चन्द्र का योग हो (अर्थात् सूर्य चन्द्र एक राशि में हों)।
