The strength accruing to a planet in the six Vargas (viz., Rasi, Hora, Drekkana, Navamsa, Dwadasamsa and Trimsamsa) on a consideration of its being posited in its exaltation, its own and its friendly signs, etc., is termed its positional strength. That arising from its being in Kendra and other Bhavas (i.e., Panaphara and Apoklima) will be 1, ½ and ¼ Rupa respectively. The hermaphrodite planets are strong in the middle, the male ones at the initial and the female ones at the concluding portions of a Rasi. Saturn, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, the Moon and the Sun are in their order increasing in their natural strength.

ग्रह को अपनी उच्च, स्व (अपनी) या मित्र राशि या छः वर्गों में स्थित होने के कारण जो बल प्राप्त होता है उसे स्थान बल कहते हैं। ग्रह यदि केन्द्र में हो तो एक रूप बल मिलता है, पणफर में हो तो आधा रूप और यदि आपोक्लिम में हो तो चौथाई रूप बल मिलता है। नपुंसक ग्रह राशि के मध्यम में (११° से २०°), पुरुष ग्रह राशि के प्रथम भाग (१° से १०° तक) में, तथा स्त्री ग्रह अन्तिम भाग (२१° से ३०° तक) बली होते हैं। नैसर्गिक बल में शनि, मंगल, बुध, गुरु, शुक्र, चन्द्र तथा सूर्य क्रमशः अधिकाधिक बली होते हैं — अर्थात् शनि से बली मंगल, मंगल से बली बुध इत्यादि।
