If Mercury be in the 5th house at a birth, the person concerned will be learned, happy and courageous. He will have a good number of children and will be conversant with charms or spells. Mercury in the 6th house makes the person born angry through disputes, harsh in speech and idle. The native will destroy the power of his enemies. When Mercury occupies the 7th house, the person born will be learned; he will dress himself beautifully, will have all the greatness, and will have a rich lady as his wife. If Mercury should be posited in the 8th house at a birth, the person concerned will be widely renowned, and long-lived; he will be the supporter of his family, a lord and a commander of the army.

पञ्चम में बुध हो तो उसके सुख और प्रताप की वृद्धि विद्या के कारण होती है; उसके बहुत सुत होते हैं और ऐसा व्यक्ति मन्त्र-शास्त्र का ज्ञाता होता है। यदि छठे में बुध हो तो मनुष्य आलसी, निष्ठुर वचन बोलने वाला, अपने शत्रुओं के बल को हनन (नाश) करने वाला; किन्तु विवाद करने में ऐसे मनुष्य को बहुत जल्दी और बहुत अधिक क्रोध हो जाता है। यदि सप्तम में बुध हो तो ऐसा व्यक्ति बुद्धिमान्, सुन्दर वेश वाला, महामहिमाशाली (सकल महिमा को प्राप्त) होता है और उसकी पत्नी धनिक होती है — अर्थात् धनी कुल में विवाह होता और दहेज मिलता है। यदि अष्टम में बुध हो तो मनुष्य दण्ड-नेता (जिसे राज्य से ऐसा अधिकार प्राप्त हो कि औरों को दण्ड दे सके) होता है; ऐसा व्यक्ति बहुत विख्यात, दीर्घायु, अपने कुल का पालन करने वाला श्रेष्ठ व्यक्ति होता है।
