The life of the native may be pronounced as long, medium and short according as the benefics and the lord of the Lagna are all posited in Kendra, Panaphara and Apoklima houses respectively. If the lord of the 8th house and the malefics occupy similar positions, the reverse should be predicted. Ascertain the friendship or otherwise of the following pairs: (1) the lord of the house occupied by the Moon and that of the 8th house from the Moon, (2) the lord of the Lagna and that of the 8th house from the Lagna, and (3) the Sun and the lord of the Lagna. If they are friendly, the native will be long-lived; if inimical, he will be short-lived; if neutral, he will have medium life.

(१) यदि लग्न का स्वामी और सब शुभ-ग्रह केन्द्र में हों तो दीर्घायु; (२) पणफर में हो तो मध्यायु; (३) और आपोक्लिम में हों तो अल्पायु। यदि आठवें घर का स्वामी और सब क्रूर-ग्रह (१) केन्द्र में हो तो अल्पायु; (२) पणफर में हो तो मध्यायु; और (३) आपोक्लिम में हों तो दीर्घायु होता है। यह देखिये कि निम्नलिखित परस्पर मित्र हैं या सम या शत्रु: (क) चन्द्र जिस राशि में है उसका स्वामी और चन्द्रमा जिस राशि में है उससे अष्टम का स्वामी आपस में। (ख) लग्नेश और अष्टमेश आपस में। (ग) लग्नेश और सूर्य आपस में। यदि ये परस्पर मित्र हों तो दीर्घायु; सम हों तो मध्यायु; शत्रु हों तो अल्पायु।
