PAKṢA BALA: Deduct from the Moon's longitude that of the Sun. If the sum exceeds 6 signs, deduct the same from 12. The product so obtained be converted into degrees etc. and divided by 3 which will indicate the Pakṣa-bala of each of the benefic planets. The Pakṣa-bala of benefic should be deducted from 60 which will go to each malefic as Pakṣa-bala.

पक्ष-बल विचार: अब पक्ष-बल बताया जा रहा है। चन्द्र-स्पष्ट में से सूर्य-स्पष्ट को घटा लें। यदि वह 6 राशि से अधिक हो, तो उसे 12 में से घटाकर षड्भाल्प करें। शेष अंशादि को 3 से भाग देने पर शुभ-ग्रहों (चन्द्र, बुध, गुरु, शुक्र) का पक्ष-बल होता है। इसे 60 कला में से घटाने पर पाप-ग्रहों का पक्ष-बल होता है। शुक्ल-पक्ष में शुभ-ग्रहों को व कृष्ण-पक्ष में पाप-ग्रहों को पक्ष-बल मिलता है — पूर्णिमा को शुभ-ग्रह पूर्ण-पक्षबली, अमावस्या को पाप-ग्रह पूर्ण-पक्षबली।
