Ascertain the exact position of the planet in the Lagna at the time of query. If there should be more than one planet, take only the strongest of them. Multiply this by the figure (measure) denoted at the time by the Chhayangula and divide the product by 12. The remainder will represent the Lagna at birth. Again, if the querist at the time of putting the query is rising to stand (Thishtathi), then the Lagna at birth will be the same as the sign rising at the time of query. If at the time of query the querist has already stood (Stthita), then the Lagna at birth will be the 30th from the sign rising at the time of query. If it is Supta instead of Stthita, then the Lagna at birth will be the 4th from the Prasna Lagna. If the querist is Asina (sitting), the Lagna at birth will be the 7th from the Prasna Lagna.

प्रश्न-समय में लग्न में स्थित ग्रह की सटीक स्थिति निश्चित करें। यदि एक से अधिक ग्रह हों, तो उनमें से केवल सबसे बलवान को लें। इसे उस समय छायांगुल द्वारा सूचित आँकड़े (माप) से गुणा करें और गुणनफल को 12 से भाग दें। शेष जन्म पर लग्न को निरूपित करेगा। पुनः, यदि प्रश्न पूछते समय प्रश्नकर्ता खड़ा होने उठ रहा हो (तिष्ठति), तो जन्म पर लग्न प्रश्न-समय में उदित राशि के समान होगा। यदि प्रश्न-समय में प्रश्नकर्ता पहले से खड़ा हो (स्थित), तो जन्म पर लग्न प्रश्न-समय में उदित राशि से 30वाँ होगा। यदि स्थित के बजाय सुप्त हो, तो जन्म पर लग्न प्रश्न-लग्न से 4था होगा। यदि प्रश्नकर्ता आसीन (बैठा) हो, तो जन्म पर लग्न प्रश्न-लग्न से 7वाँ होगा।
