A planet has positional strength when it occupies its exaltation sign, a friendly house, its Moolatrikona house, its own Navamsa Rasi and its Swakshetra sign. As regards the directions, Mercury and Jupiter are strong in the East or rising sign. The Sun and Mars are powerful in the South or 10th house. Saturn is strong in the West or 7th house. Venus and the Moon are strong in the North or 4th house.

ग्रह को स्थानबल तब मिलता है जब वह अपनी उच्च राशि, मित्र की राशि, मूलत्रिकोण, अपने नवांश की राशि या अपनी स्वराशि में हो। दिशाओं के सम्बन्ध में — बुध और गुरु पूर्व अर्थात् लग्न में बलवान हैं। सूर्य और मंगल दक्षिण अर्थात् दशम भाव में बलशाली हैं। शनि पश्चिम अर्थात् सप्तम में बली है। शुक्र और चन्द्र उत्तर अर्थात् चतुर्थ में बली हैं।
