When malefic planets occupy the 6 bhavas counted backward from the 12th, the whole, a half, a third, a fourth, a fifth and a sixth, respectively, of their Ayurdaya is lost. When benefic planets occupy such positions, the loss is half of that incurred in the case of malefic ones. When several planets are in a bhava, only the strongest of them causes a reduction in the Ayurdaya. Satyacharya says so.

इन आयु-वर्षों में कटौतियाँ करनी होती हैं: (1) अस्त या सूर्य के साथ ग्रह के लिए — शुक्र और शनि को छोड़कर — आधी कटौती। (2) शत्रु की राशि में होने पर एक-तिहाई की कटौती। (3) वक्री ग्रह को कटौती नहीं होती। राशिचक्र के द्वादश से पीछे गिने गए अर्ध भाग में स्थित ग्रहों के लिए भी कटौती होती है।
