Directional and Positional Strengths. Jupiter and Mercury have directional strength, while in the Ascendant (East), the Sun and Mars in the 10th (South), Saturn in the ?h (West) and the Moon and Venus in the 4h (North). If a planet is in exaltation, Mlatrikona, own House, friendly House, or own Navansa and aspected by a benefic, it assumes strength. The Moon and Venus are strong in even Rasis, while the restare so in odd Rasis. This is called positional strength.

दिग्बल एवं स्थानबल। गुरु एवं बुध को लग्न (पूर्व दिशा) में, सूर्य एवं मंगल को दसवें भाव (दक्षिण दिशा) में, शनि को सप्तम भाव (पश्चिम दिशा) में तथा चन्द्र एवं शुक्र को चतुर्थ भाव (उत्तर दिशा) में दिग्बल प्राप्त होता है। यदि ग्रह उच्च, मूलत्रिकोण, स्वगृह, मित्रगृह अथवा स्वनवांश में हो और शुभ ग्रह से दृष्ट हो, तो वह बलवान् माना जाता है। चन्द्र एवं शुक्र सम राशियों में बली होते हैं, तथा शेष ग्रह विषम राशियों में बली होते हैं। इसी को स्थानबल कहते हैं।
