The houses next to the Kendras — that is, the 2nd, the 5th, the 8th and the 11th — are known as Panaphara. The 3rd, the 6th, the 9th and the 12th are Apoklima houses. The 4th and the 8th are designated Chaturasra houses. The 10th, the 3rd, the 6th and the 11th houses are called Upachaya; the 9th and the 5th are known as Trikona (or triangular) houses, and these are auspicious. Thus ends the first Adhyaya on "Definitions" in the work Phaladeepika composed by Mantreswara.

जन्म लग्न से द्वितीय, पंचम, अष्टम तथा एकादश स्थानों को 'पणफर' कहते हैं तथा तृतीय, षष्ठ, नवम और द्वादश स्थानों को 'आपोक्लिम'। चौथे तथा आठवें घर को 'चतुरस्र' कहते हैं। तृतीय, छठे, दसवें तथा ग्यारहवें घर का 'उपचय' नाम है। पाँचवें तथा नवें घर को 'त्रिकोण' कहते हैं। त्रिकोण स्थान बहुत उत्तम माने गये हैं। त्रिकोण में शुभ ग्रह बैठें तो और भी शुभ फल दिखलाता है। त्रिकोण का स्वामी भी अपनी दशा, अन्तर्दशा में शुभ फल दिखाता है।
