छठे, आठवें तथा बारहवें घरों को 'दुःस्थान' कहते हैं। दुःस्थान का अर्थ है खराब स्थान। अन्य स्थान १, २, ३, ४, ५, ७, ९, १०, ११ शुभ स्थान हैं। वे शुभ फल करते हैं। जन्मकुंडली में लग्न, चतुर्थ, सप्तम तथा दशम स्थानों को 'केन्द्र' कहते हैं। केन्द्र को 'कण्टक' या 'चतुष्टय' भी कहते हैं।
