A benefic planet, even if he be in his exaltation house, will injure the Bhava he occupies if he should happen to own a Dussthana (6th, 8th or 12th). A malefic in exaltation will do good to the Bhava he occupies if he happens to own good houses. Thus ends the 23rd Adhyaya on "Ashtakavarga" in the work Phaladeepika composed by Mantreswara.

यदि कोई ग्रह दुःस्थान का स्वामी हो तो चाहे वह शुभ हो और उच्च राशि में भी हो — जिस भाव में है उस भाव को बिगाड़ेगा। किन्तु यदि सुस्थान का स्वामी होकर उच्च-स्थान में हो तो उस भाव को बढ़ावेगा। (टिप्पणी: श्लोक २३ और २४ में जो सिद्धान्त बताये गये हैं वे यद्यपि इस अध्याय में गोचर-प्रकरण में कहे गये हैं, किन्तु इनका उपयोग जन्म-कुण्डली तथा गोचर दोनों में समान रूप से किया जा सकता है।)
