If a birth happens at the extreme end of a Rasi which is (occupied by) associated with or aspected by a malefic planet, the child will surely meet with its death at once. If the birth be at a Gandantha (vide 1–4 supra), the father, the mother, or the child itself will die. Should however the child survive, he will become a king. If born at the junction of any one of the four corners identical with the conjunction at or aspect by a malefic, the death of the child will soon happen. The same result will occur if the Moon at birth attains the fateful degree in any sign (vide next sloka infra) and is at the same time posited in a Kendra or the 8th house.

दो राशियों की सन्धि में यदि जन्म हो और यदि राशि पाप-ग्रहों से युत या दृष्ट हो तो बालक की मृत्यु शीघ्र हो जाती है। यदि गण्डान्त में जन्म हो तो उसके माता-पिता या बच्चे का स्वयं का नाश हो जाता है किन्तु यदि बच्चा जी जाये तो राजा के समान प्रभावशाली होता है। मीन और मेष की सन्धि, कर्क और सिंह की सन्धि, वृश्चिक और धनु की सन्धि गण्डान्त कहलाती है। जो बालक पाप-ग्रहों से युत या दृष्ट, सन्धियों में पैदा होते हैं उनकी अल्पायु हो जाती है। चन्द्रमा यदि केन्द्र या अष्टम में हो और मृत्यु भाग में हो तो भी बालक की शीघ्र मृत्यु होती है। किस राशि में किस अंश में चन्द्रमा और लग्न मृत्यु भाग में होता है यह आगे के दो श्लोकों में बताया गया है।
