The several places detailed above are to be reckoned with respect to the Rasi (and not the Bhava) occupied by each of the 7 planets and the Lagna at the time of birth. These places should be understood as benefic and the rest malefic. As each Rasi happens to be counted 8 times (once for each of the 7 planets and the Lagna) for ascertaining the benefic as well as the malefic places, the maximum number of countings cannot in any case exceed 8. If after computation of a planet's Ashtakavarga it is found that a particular Rasi has more countings on the benefic side than on the malefic, it means that the net result is beneficial to the native.
