Mahārishi Parāśara said to Maitreya — O Brahmin! Now I will impart to you the knowledge of a great secrecy and superior importance which was communicated to me by Lord Brahmā himself for the benefit of the world. This is a chakra by the name of Sudarśana through which Daivajñas will be able to predict the favourable and unfavourable results for every year, every month and every day from the time of birth to the time of death of a person. Listen to this very intently.

अथोच्यते मया विप्र ! रहस्यं ज्ञानमुत्तमम्‌ । जगतामुपकाराय यत्‌ प्रोक्तं ब्रह्मणा स्वयम्‌ । ।1।। पराशर बोले- हे मैत्रेय ! अब मैं आपके समक्ष गूढ रहस्यपूर्ण विशिष्ट व ब्रह्मप्रोक्त ज्ञान को कहता हूँ ।
