The 9th house from the Sun at the time of birth deals with father. The rekhas of the rasi (of that house) as marked in the Sun's Ashtakavarga should be multiplied by the Yoga Pinda and the product be divided by 27 (the number of nakshatras). The remainder will denote the number of the nakshatra beginning from Ashwini. The father will be in distress or he will otherwise suffer when Saturn in transit passes through that nakshatra. Even when Saturn passes in transit through the trikona nakshatras (5th and 9th), father or relatives like father may die or suffer.

अर्काश्रितर्क्षान्नवमो राशिः पितृगृहं स्मृतम्‌ । तद्राशिफलसंख्याभिर्वर्धयेत्‌ योगपिण्डकम्‌ । । 7 । । सूर्याष्टक वर्ग से पिता का विचार : जन्म समय में सूर्य जिस राशि में हो, उस राशि से नवीं राशि को पिता का स्थान समझें । सूर्याष्टक वर्ग में उस नवीं राशि को जितनी रेखाएं मिली हों, उस रेखा संख्या को सूर्याष्टक के योग पिण्ड से गुणा कर 27 का भाग दे ।
