In the aggregational Ashtakavarga the rasi which has more than 30 rekhas gives favourable effects, that having between 25 and 30 rekhas produces medium effects, and that rasi which has less than 25 rekhas yields adverse effects. Auspicious functions like marriage etc. should be performed when the planet on whose basis the time and date of the function is fixed moves into the rasi with favourable effects. The rasi which is productive of adverse effects (that is with rekhas less than 25) should be avoided for these purposes. For example, the strength of the Moon (Chandrabala) is generally acceptable for all auspicious functions. Therefore, auspicious functions should be performed or started when the Moon is in the rasi with the maximum number of rekhas. The planet in the rasi with favourable number of rekhas produces auspicious effects and the planet in the rasi with unfavourable number of rekhas yields evil results.

त्रिंशाधिक फला ये स्युः राशयस्ते शुभप्रदाः । पंचविंशादि त्रिंशान्तफला मध्यफलाः स्मृताः । । 3 । । अतः क्षीणफला ये ते राशयः कष्टदुःखदाः । शुभे श्रेष्ठफलान्‌ राशीन्‌ योजयेत्‌ मतिमान्नरः । । 4 । । कष्टराशीन्‌ सुकार्येषु वर्जयेत्‌ द्विजसत्तम ! । श्रेष्ठराशिगतः खेटः शुभोऽन्यत्राऽशुभप्रदः । । 5 । । इस तरह समुदायाष्टक में जिस राशि में 30 से अधिक रेखा योग हो, वे राशियाँ या भाव शुभ फलप्रद होते हैं । 25 से 30 तक रेखायोग वाले भाव मध्यम फलद हैं । 25 से कम रेखायोग कष्ट व दुःखप्रद होता है । गोचर में जब ग्रह अधिक या शुभ फलप्रद राशि में रहे, तभी उसे बलवान् समझना चाहिए । कष्टराशिगत ग्रह को सर्वत्र शुभ कार्यों में वर्जित करें । श्रेष्ठ राशिगत ग्रह शुभ व अन्यथा अशुभ होते हैं । आशय यह है कि उपनयन, विवाहादि में चन्द्रबल, गुरुबल व सूर्यबल देखा जाता है । अतः गुरु, चन्द्र व सूर्य जब 30 या अधिक रेखा वाली राशि में रहें तथा सामान्य गोचर नियमों से अशुभ स्थान में भी रहें, तब भी शुभ ही होगा; क्योंकि अष्टवर्ग से ही गोचर शुद्धि अधिक प्रामाणिक होती है । हमारे उदाहरण में 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12 भाव श्रेष्ठ हैं । 1, 4, 7, 9 मध्यम व 8 भाव अधम है । लेकिन सामान्यतः 6, 8, 12 आदि अशुभ भावों में कम रेखायोग ही शुभ है । अतः कुल मिलाकर शुभ फल की अधिकता है ।
