CALCULATION OF PRANAPADA: Convert the given time into vighatikas and divide the same by 15. The resultant Rasi, degrees etc. be added to the Sun if he is in a movable sign which will yield Pranapada. If the Sun is in a fixed sign, add 240 degrees additionally and if in dual sign add 120 degrees in furtherance to get Pranapada. The birth will be auspicious if Pranapada falls in the 2nd, 5th, 9th, 4th, 10th or 11th from the natal ascendant. In other houses, Pranapada indicates an inauspicious birth.

प्राणपद-परिभाषा: 360° के चौथाई 90 प्राणों का एक प्राणपद होता है। 'षड्भिःप्राणैर्विनाडी' — 6 प्राण = 1 पल, अतः 90 प्राण = 15 पल = घड़ी की चौथाई के बराबर एक राशि प्राणपद-काल। इष्टकालीन प्राणपद-राशि जानकर, यदि सूर्य चर-राशि में हो तो स्पष्ट-सूर्य में जोड़ें; स्थिर-राशि में हो तो सूर्य से नवीं राशि में; द्विस्वभाव में हो तो सूर्य से पंचम राशि में जोड़ने से स्पष्ट प्राणपद-लग्न। इष्टकाल के पल ÷ 15 = लब्धि (राशि-अंश-कला); इन्हें सूर्य से 1-9-5 राशि में जोड़कर भी स्पष्ट प्राणपद होता है। लग्न से द्वि-कोण (5/9), तुर्य (4) व राज्य (10) में या एकादश में प्राणपद हो तो शुभ-जन्म; अन्य स्थान में अशुभ।
