CALCULATIONS OF GULIKA ETC.: From sunrise to sunset on Sunday and so on, divide the day duration into eight equal parts. The eighth part is lordless while the other seven parts beginning from the weekday-lord get the lordships of the seven planets in order. The Saturn-portion is Gulika. Likewise divide the night duration into eight equal parts and distribute these commencing from the 5th weeklord. Here again the eighth portion is lordless while Saturn's portion is Gulika. The Sun's portion is Kala, Mars' portion is Mrityu, Jupiter's portion is Yamaghantaka and Mercury's portion is Ardha Prahara. These (durations) differently apply to different places (commensurate with variable day and night durations).

रविवार से शनिवार तक — गुलिकादि का निरूपण: इष्ट दिन के दिनमान को 8 भागों में बाँट लें। वार-क्रम से इष्ट दिन के वार से गणना करने पर सात खण्डों के सात वारेश; आठवें खण्ड का कोई स्वामी नहीं। जिस अष्टमांश का स्वामी शनि पड़े वही 'गुलिक'। रात्रि में रात्रि-मान को 8 से भाग देकर, प्रथम खण्ड का स्वामी वारेश से पाँचवाँ ग्रह — फिर वार-क्रम से। उसी प्रकार सूर्य का अंश 'काल', मंगल का 'मृत्यु', गुरु का 'यमघण्ट', बुध का 'अर्धप्रहर' कहलाता है — ये यथा-नाम-तथा-गुण होते हैं।
