The Daśā of the planets and rāśis who have benefics in the trikoṇa from them is favourable. If the Daśā of a benefic rāśi commences in a benefic rāśi, it will be very favourable. If an evil Daśā commences in a benefic rāśi, it is also favourable. Therefore the commencement of Daśā should always be kept in view in assessing the results of the Daśā. There will be loss of fortune if at the commencement of the Daśā there be a malefic rāśi or the lord of the Daśā rāśi be in debilitation.

आरम्भे पापराशौ वा यदीशो दुर्बलो द्विज ! । नीचादौ तददशाद्यन्ते वदेद् भाग्यविपर्ययम् । (क) दशारम्म में दशेश ग्रह या राशि से 1.5.9 भावों में शुभ ग्रह होने से दशा शुभ होती हे । (ख) शुभ ग्रह की राशि की दशा शुरू हो तथा दशारम्भ में उस राशि में कोई शुभ ग्रह हो तो वह दशा विशेष शुभ हो जाती है । (ग) पाप राशि में शुभ राशि की दशा आने पर अथवा दशा प्रवेश के समय पाप दशा राशि में शुभ ग्रह गोचर करने से जब वह दशा शुभ हो जाती है तब शुभ राशि दशा की तो बात ही क्या ? अर्थात् वह तो निर्विवाद शुभ ही होगी । (घ) जिस राशि की दशा प्रारम्भ हो, उस राशि का स्वामी यदि दशारम्भ के समय नीच, परम नीच या अति शत्रु स्थान या अस्त या पराजित हो तो उस राशि की दशा में भाग्य विपरीत हो जाता है ।
