The refuge of the departed is the lord of the Drekkana of the 6th house (i.e., the 16th decanate from the rising decanate) or of the 8th house (i.e., the 22nd decanate from the rising decanate) or the planet occupying the 7th bhava (Bhattotpala adds the 6th and the 8th bhavas also). Whichever of these planets is found to be strongest, to the world thereof does the departed person go. If Jupiter is in his exaltation and occupies the 6th bhava, a Kendra position or the 6th bhava, the departed person will attain final emancipation. The same happens also if the rising sign is Pisces and the rising Navamsa is that of a benefic planet and Jupiter occupies it, while planets other than Jupiter are without strength.

दिवंगत का आश्रय 6ठे भाव के द्रेक्काण (अर्थात् उदित द्रेक्काण से 16वाँ द्रेक्काण) अथवा 8वें भाव के (अर्थात् उदित द्रेक्काण से 22वाँ द्रेक्काण) का स्वामी अथवा 7वें भाव में अधिष्ठित ग्रह है (भट्टोत्पल 6ठे और 8वें भावों को भी जोड़ते हैं)। इन ग्रहों में से जो भी सबसे बलवान पाया जाए, उसके लोक में दिवंगत व्यक्ति जाता है। यदि गुरु अपनी उच्च में हो और 6ठे भाव, केन्द्र स्थिति अथवा 6ठे भाव में अधिष्ठित हो, तो दिवंगत व्यक्ति अन्तिम मोक्ष को प्राप्त होगा। यही तब भी होता है यदि उदित राशि मीन हो और उदित नवांश किसी शुभ ग्रह का हो तथा गुरु उसमें अधिष्ठित हो, जबकि गुरु के अतिरिक्त अन्य ग्रह बल-रहित हों।
