It examines eight compatibility factors — the Ashtakoota — across Moon signs and nakshatras, producing a score out of 36. Classical texts like Vivāha Vṛndāvana (1935) define each koota with specific rules, exceptions, and cancellations that most modern calculators ignore.

How many gunas are needed for a good match?

18 or more is generally considered acceptable; 28+ is excellent per most classical standards. However, the raw Guna score is not the whole picture. Nadi dosha (worth 8 points) can be active even in a 30/36 chart, and Bhakoot dosha can override otherwise good scores. VedicPupil checks all major doshas and their cancellations before arriving at a final reading.

What is Nadi dosha and is it really dangerous?

Nadi dosha occurs when both partners share the same nadi (Ādi, Madhya, or Antya) — identified through the Moon nakshatra. Vivāha Vṛndāvana (3.6) calls same-navaka placement "fatal nadi dosha." But it also gives cancellations: if partners have the same nakshatra but different Moon signs, or the same Moon sign but different nakshatras, the dosha is cancelled (VV 3.3). This is why raw-score tools are unreliable without cancellation checks.

Can Manglik dosha be cancelled by matching?

Yes. Double-manglik (both partners have Mars in 1st/4th/7th/8th/12th) is the most powerful cancellation — it neutralises the dosha entirely. Other cancellations include Mars in its own sign (Aries/Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn), or Jupiter aspecting Mars. VedicPupil checks all of these before flagging a Manglik concern.

No. Parāśara and the ācāryas treat kundli matching as one dimension of a holistic assessment, not an absolute veto. A 14/36 chart with strong Jupiter, well-placed 7th lords, and mutual Moon-sign harmony can outperform a 30/36 chart with hidden afflictions. The purpose of matching is awareness — understanding specific dynamics so the couple builds with intention, not fear.
