Rasis Benefic and Malefic, Gandanta and its Effects. From Aries onwards alternatively the Rasis are known, as malefic and benefic on the one hand and male and female on the other hand. These are also classified, as Chara (Movable), Sthira (Fixed, Immovable) and DvisvaBhava (Ubhaya, Dual, Common) Rasis. The ending portions of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are called Gandanta. It is said, that one born in Gandanta will not survive. He will either lose his mother, or he will end the dynasty, i.e. he is the last of his descent and will not have any children. If, however, he survives, he becomes a king with many elephants and horses.

राशियों के शुभ-अशुभत्व, चर-स्थिर भेद एवं गण्डान्त का फल। मेष से आरम्भ करके क्रमशः राशियाँ एकान्तर रूप से अशुभ-शुभ तथा पुरुष-स्त्री संज्ञक होती हैं। ये चर, स्थिर एवं द्विस्वभाव (उभय) के रूप में भी विभक्त की गई हैं। कर्क, वृश्चिक और मीन के अन्त्य भाग को गण्डान्त कहते हैं। शास्त्र में कहा गया है कि गण्डान्त में जन्म लेने वाला जीवित नहीं रहता। वह या तो माता को खो देता है, या वंश का अन्त कर देता है — अर्थात् वह अपने वंश का अन्तिम होता है और उसे सन्तान नहीं होती। यदि वह जीवित रह जाए, तो अनेक हाथी-घोड़ों से युक्त राजा बनता है।
