The good influence of planets is at its maximum, three quarters, a half, a quarter, at its minimum or nil according as the planets are in the exaltation sign, Moolatrikona, Swakshetra, friendly sign, inimical sign or depression sign respectively. The proportions given above are with respect to benefics or lords of benefic houses. In the case of malefics, or lords of malefic houses, it will be reverse. When a planet is in combustion (conjunction with the Sun), its effect will be similar to that in depression. (Cf. Bṛhat Parāśara Horā VII-58).

यदि ग्रह अपनी उच्च राशि में हो तो पूर्ण शुभ फल होता है। यदि मूल-त्रिकोण राशि में हो तो तीन-चौथाई शुभ फल होता है। यदि शुभ ग्रह स्वराशि में हो तो आधा शुभ फल होता है; यदि शुभ ग्रह मित्र राशि में हो तो चौथाई शुभ फल होता है; यदि शुभ ग्रह शत्रु राशि में हो तो बहुत थोड़ा शुभ फल होता है, और यदि शुभ ग्रह नीच राशि में हो तो शुभ-फल शून्य के बराबर होता है। यदि पाप-ग्रह नीच राशि में हो तो पाप-फल पूर्ण अर्थात् सोलह आना अशुभ होता है। यदि अशुभ ग्रह शत्रु राशि में हो तो बारह आना अशुभ फल; यदि पाप-ग्रह मित्र राशि में हो तो आठ आना अशुभ फल। यदि पाप-ग्रह स्वराशि में हो तो चार आना अशुभ-फल। यदि पाप-ग्रह अपनी मूल त्रिकोण राशि में हो तो दो आना अशुभ फल, और यदि उच्च राशि में हो तो पाप-फल शून्य के बराबर अर्थात् बहुत कम होता है। यदि ग्रह अस्त हो तो नीच-राशि-स्थित ग्रह के समान फल करता है।
