GHAṬĪ LAGNA (GHAṬIKĀ LAGNA): Now listen to the method of working out Ghaṭikā Lagna. This Lagna changes along with every Ghaṭikā (24 minutes) from the Sunrise. Note the birth time in Ghaṭī and vighaṭīs. Consider the number of ghaṭīs past as number of Rāśis or Ghaṭikā Lagnas. The Vighaṭīs be divided by 2 to arrive at degrees and minutes of arc past in the said Ghaṭikā Lagna. The product so arrived in Rāśis, degrees and minutes be added to the Sun's longitude as at Sunrise to get the exact location of Ghaṭikā Lagna. So say sages like Nārada.

हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ! अब आपको घटी-लग्न का साधन बता रहा हूँ। सूर्योदय से आरम्भ करके जन्मेष्ट तक एक-एक घड़ी अर्थात् 24-24 मिनट का एक घटी-लग्न होता है। इसी को नारदादि ऋषियों ने 'घटी-लग्न' कहा है। इष्ट की घड्यों के बराबर राशि व पलों के बराबर अंश लेकर सूर्य में जोड़ने से घटी-लग्न स्पष्ट होता है। इन सब लग्नों का चक्र राशि-चक्र के समान बनाकर उनमें ग्रहों को उनकी गणितागत राशियों में स्थापित करने से लग्न-चक्र बन जाते हैं।
