HORĀ LAGNA: Again from Sunrise till the time of birth, Horā Lagna repeats itself every 2½ ghaṭīs (i.e. 60 minutes). Divide the time past upto birth from the Sunrise by 2½ and add the quotient etc. in signs, degrees and so on to the longitude of the Sun as at the Sunrise. This will yield Horā Lagna in Rāśi, degrees etc.

हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ मैत्रेय! अब मैं होरा-लग्न का साधन बताता हूँ। सूर्योदय से आरम्भ करके 2 घड़ी अर्थात् 1 घंटा काल का होरा-लग्न क्रमशः उदित होता है। इसी लग्न का नाम 'होरा' है — यह षड्वर्गों में पठित होरा नहीं है। अपनी इष्ट-घटी को 2 से गुणा कर 5 का भाग देने से जो लब्धि मिले उसे उदय-कालिक सूर्य में जोड़ने से होरा-लग्न स्पष्ट होता है।
