Similar assessments be made with reference to the Varṇada of each Bhāva commencing the first and the evils and goods due to a nativity be known. These Varṇada Daśās are only for Bhāvas (Rāśis) and not their occupants. The sub period of each Daśā will be one twelfth of the Daśā and the order will also be clockwise or anti-clockwise as explained earlier. The natal ascendant is to be calculated according to birth place while Bhāva Lagna, Horā Lagna etc. are common to all places.

हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ! अब मैं वर्णद का प्रयोजन कहता हूँ। होरा व लग्न में जो बलवान् हो, उसी से गिनकर वर्णद-दशा जानी जाती है। लग्न से वर्णद-राशि जितनी संख्या आगे या पीछे (सम-विषम भेद से क्रम-व्युत्क्रम-गणना) पड़े, उतने ही वर्ष लग्न की 'वर्णद-दशा' होती है। ('सबलात्' के स्थान पर 'दुर्बलात्' पाठ भी मिलता है।)
