VARṆADA DAŚĀ: I now detail Varṇada Daśā just by knowing which, one can deal with the longevity of a native. If the natal ascendant is an odd sign, count directly from Aries to natal ascendant. If the natal ascendant is an even sign, count from Pisces to the natal ascendant, in the reverse order. Similarly, if the Horā Lagna is an odd one, count from Aries to Horā Lagna in direct order. If the Horā Lagna is an even one, count from Pisces to Horā Lagna in the reverse order. If both the products are odd signs or even signs, then add both the figures. If one is odd and the other is even, then know the difference between the two products. If the latest product, in this process, is an odd one, count so many signs from Aries in a direct manner; if an even one, count so many signs from Pisces in reverse order. The sign so known will be the Varṇada for the ascendant.

इन लग्नों में 15° अंश दीप्तांश कहे गए हैं। प्रत्येक लग्न-स्पष्ट से 15° अंश पीछे से भाव शुरू होकर 15° अंश आगे तक कुल 30° का प्रत्येक भाव होता है। इस तरह लग्न-स्पष्ट में 1-1 राशि जोड़ने से क्रमशः लग्नादि भाव तथा 15° जोड़ने से भावों की सन्धियाँ स्पष्ट हो जाती हैं। यह विधि फलादेश में आज भी उपयोगी है। भाव-स्पष्ट के बराबर ग्रह-स्पष्ट रहने से पूर्ण फल, तथा भाव की आरम्भ-सन्धि से फल की क्रमशः वृद्धि होती है। अन्तिम सन्धि के बराबर ग्रह रहने से वह निष्फल रहता है; बीच में पड़े तो अनुपात करना चाहिए।
