ANGLES, TRINES ETC. DEFINED: O Maitreya, listen to other matters which I am explaining. The Kendras (angles) are specially known as ascendant, the 4th house, the descendant and the mid-heaven (the 10th house). The 2nd, 5th, 8th and the 11th are Pāṇapharas or succedents, while the 3rd, 6th, 9th and the 12th are called Āpoklimas or cadents. The 5th and 9th from the ascendant are known by the name Koṇa or trine. Evil houses or Trika houses are the 6th, 8th and the 12th. Caturasras are the 4th and 8th. The 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses are Upacaya.

भाव-संज्ञा-निश्चय: 1-4-7-10 भावों को 'केन्द्र'; 2-5-8-11 को 'पणफर'; 3-6-9-12 को 'आपोक्लिम' कहते हैं। लग्न से 5-9 'त्रिकोण'; 6-8-12 'दुःस्थान' (त्रिक); 4-8 'चतुरस्र'; तथा विचारणीय भाव/ग्रह से 3-6-10-11 राशियाँ 'उपचय' कहलाती हैं।
