BHĀVA BALAS: Thus I explained about the planetary strengths. Deduct the 7th house (longitude of descendant) from the bhāva if the bhāva happens to be in Virgo, Gemini, Libra, Aquarius or the first half of Sagittarius; if Aries, Taurus, Leo or first half of Capricorn or the second half of Sagittarius happen to be the bhāva, deduct the 4th house (Nadir) from it. Should the bhāva be in Cancer or in Scorpio deduct from it the ascendant. And deduct the 10th house (meridian) from the bhāva happening to fall in Capricorn second half or Pisces. Convert the product so obtained (in the respective case) into degrees etc. and divide by 3 to get the strength of the bhāva. If the balance in the process of deducting the Nadir, Meridian, ascendant or descendant exceeds 6 signs, deduct it again from 12 signs before converting into degrees and dividing by 3. The product after division should be increased by a fourth if the bhāva in question has a benefic aspect on it. And a malefic's aspect will entail one-fourth reduction. If Jupiter or Mercury aspect a bhāva, add that planet's aspectual strength also. And then super-add the strength acquired by the lord of that bhāva. This will be the net strength of that bhāva.

भाव-बल स्पष्ट: अब ग्रह-बल के पश्चात्‌ भाव-बल का स्पष्टीकरण सुनें। जिस भाव का बल जानना हो, उस भाव की राशि — (i) कन्या, मिथुन, तुला, कुम्भ व धनु का पूर्वार्ध हो — तो उसमें से सप्तम-भाव को घटा लें (नर-राशि); (ii) वृष, मेष, सिंह, मकर, धनु का उत्तरार्ध हो — तो चतुर्थ-भाव घटाएँ (पशु-राशि); (iii) कर्क व वृश्चिक हो — तो लग्न घटाएँ (कीट-राशि); (iv) मकर का उत्तरार्ध या मीन हो — तो दशम-भाव घटाएँ (जल-चर-राशि)। शेष यदि 6 राशि से अधिक हो तो 12 में से घटाकर अंशात्मक बनाकर 3 का भाग दें — दिग्बल। उस भाव पर शुभ-दृष्टि का चौथाई जोड़ें, पाप-दृष्टि का चौथाई घटाएँ। बुध-गुरु की पूर्ण-दृष्टि हो तो उनकी सारी दृष्टि भी जोड़ें; तथा भावेश-ग्रह के सारे षड्बल को इसमें मिलाएँ — तब 'भाव-स्पष्ट-बल' होता है।
