VARGA CLASSIFICATION: Maitreya, explained now are the sum effects of classifications of different divisions (or Vargas so far narrated). These are four kinds, viz. Ṣaḍ-varga (6 divisions considered), Sapta-varga (7 divisions), Daśa-varga (10), and Ṣoḍaśa-varga (all 16). In the Ṣaḍ-varga classification, the Varga designations are Kiṁśuka, Vyañjana, Cāmara, Chatra and Kuṇḍala according to a planet being in 2 to 6 combinations of good Vargas. Next is Sapta-varga, in which these classifications continue in the same manner upto six good Vargas, the 7th additional Varga getting classified as Mukuṭa. In the Daśa-varga scheme, the designations commence from Pārijāta etc. such as 2 good Vargas — Pārijāta, 3. Uttama, 4. Gopura, 5. Siṁhāsana, 6. Pāravata, 7. Devaloka, 8. Brahmaloka, 9. Śakravāhana and 10. Vargas — Śrīdhāma. In the Ṣoḍaśa-varga scheme the combinations of Vargas go with designations thus: two good Vargas — Bhedaka, 3. Kusuma, 4. Nāgapuṣpa, 5. Kanduka, 6. Kerala, 7. Kalpa-vṛkṣa, 8. Candana-vana, 9. Pūrṇa-candra, 10. Uccaiḥśrava, 11. Dhanvantari, 12. Sūryakānta, 13. Vidruma, 14. Śakra-siṁhāsana, 15. Goloka and 16. Vargas — Śrīvallabha. In these divisions, the divisions falling in the planet's exaltation sign, Mūlatrikoṇa sign, own sign, and the signs owned by the lord of an angle from the Ārūḍha ascendant are all to be considered (as good Vargas). The divisions of a combust planet, defeated planet, weak planet, and a planet in bad Avasthās like Śayana be all ignored as auspicious, for these destroy the good yogas.

वर्ग-भेद-कथन: सभी वर्गों को चार विभागों में बाँटा जाता है — षड्वर्ग, सप्तवर्ग, दशवर्ग, षोडशवर्ग। षड्वर्ग व सप्तवर्ग में संज्ञाएँ — 2 शुभ वर्गों पर 'किंशुक', 3 पर 'व्यंजन', 4 पर 'चामर', 5 पर 'छत्र', 6 पर 'कुण्डल'; सप्तवर्ग में 7 पर 'मुकुट' अतिरिक्त। दशवर्ग में: 2 शुभ वर्गों पर 'पारिजात', 3 पर 'उत्तम', 4 पर 'गोपुर', 5 पर 'सिंहासन', 6 पर 'पारावत', 7 पर 'देवलोक', 8 पर 'ब्रह्मलोक', 9 पर 'शक्रवाहन' (ऐरावत), 10 पर 'श्रीधाम'। षोडशवर्ग में: 2 पर 'भेदक', 3 पर 'कुसुम', 4 पर 'नागपुष्प', 5 पर 'कन्दुक', 6 पर 'केरल', 7 पर 'कल्पवृक्ष', 8 पर 'चन्दनवन', 9 पर 'पूर्णचन्द्र', 10 पर 'उच्चैःश्रवा', 11 पर 'धन्वन्तरि', 12 पर 'सूर्यकान्त', 13 पर 'विद्रुम', 14 पर 'इन्द्रासन' (शक्रसिंहासन), 15 पर 'गोलोक', 16 पर 'श्रीवल्लभ'।
