Then after invocation with Varun (वरुण) mantra, worship should be performed by chanting ‘शं नो देवीरभीष्टये’ etc., mantras. Thereafter a kalash (कलश) should be placed in the North East direction with chanting of ‘शं नो देवीः’, ‘पवमानः’, ‘त्वमग्ने’ mantras followed by Japa of ‘आ ब्रह्मन्’ etc., and ‘त्र्यम्बकं’ suktas and the chanting of Mṛtyuñjaya mantra. Then, after sprinkling water over the idol of Lord Shiva (अभिषेक), the nine planets should be worshipped. This should be followed by havana by using ghee, powder of sesamum seeds (तिल), urad (उरद), sarson (सर्षप) and wood pieces of Pipal, Pakar, Palas and Khadir trees. 108 or 28 oblations should be made separately for the nine planets. Thereafter alongwith chanting of ‘तिल’ etc. mantras, havan should be performed with sesamum seeds (तिल) for the nine planets. Lastly the water of the Kalash should be sprinkled on the native and his parents, and the Brahmins should be fed according to means.

इमं मे वरुणेत्येवं तत्वायामीतिमन्त्रकेः । त्वन्नो अग्ने इत्यनया सत्वं नो इत्युचापि च । । 7 । । वरुण मन्त्र — ॐ तत्त्वायामि ब्रह्मणा वन्दमानस्तदा शास्ते यजमानो हविर्भिः । अहेडमानो वरुणेह बोध्युरुशं स मा न्छआयुः प्रमोषीः । (2) इमं मे वरुण श्रुधी हवमद्या च मृडय — त्वामवस्युराचकं । (3) त्वन्नो अग्ने वरुणस्य विद्वान् देवस्य हेडोऽअवयासि सीष्ठाः — यजिष्ठो वह्नितमः शोशुचानो विविश्वा द्वेषाऽसि प्रमुमुग्ध्यस्मत्‌ । (4) सत्वन्नो अग्ने — अवयक्ष्व नो वरुण रराणो — वीहि मृडीकः सुहवो एधि ।
