The Sage said — Divide the span of Chaturdashi into 6 parts. The birth in the first part is auspicious. The birth in the second part causes destruction or death of father. The birth in the third part results in death of the mother. The birth in the fourth part takes away the maternal uncle. The birth in the fifth part destroys the entire family (कुल-गोत्र — generation). The birth in the sixth part causes loss of wealth or destruction (death) of the native. Therefore, it is essential to take immediate remedial measures to escape these evil effects.

कृष्णपक्ष चतुर्दश्याः षडभागेषु फलं क्रमात्‌ । जन्म चेत्‌ प्रथमे भागे तदा ज्ञेयं शुभं दिज ! । । 1 । । पराशर बोले- कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्दशी के समस्त मान तिथि भोग को 6 से भाग दें । पहले षष्ठांश में जन्म हो तो यह शुभ है ।
