Thus have been described the benefic positions; the rest are to be understood as malefic. The planets produce the effect of whichever of these two preponderate in the Ashtakavarga calculations made from the Rasi they occupy at the time of birth. In their own, friendly or Upachaya places, the planets invariably advance the benefic effect revealed by Ashtakavarga. In their depression, inimical or Apachaya houses, they generally fail to sustain whatever good effect may appear from the Ashtakavarga process.

इस प्रकार शुभ स्थान वर्णित किए गए; शेष को अशुभ समझना चाहिए। ग्रह उन दोनों में से जो अधिक हो — जन्म-समय में जिस राशि में वे स्थित हों उससे की गई अष्टकवर्ग गणना में — उसी का फल देते हैं। अपने स्व, मित्र अथवा उपचय स्थानों में, ग्रह सदैव अष्टकवर्ग द्वारा प्रकट शुभ फल को बढ़ाते हैं। अपने नीच, शत्रु अथवा अपचय भावों में, वे प्रायः अष्टकवर्ग प्रक्रिया से उत्पन्न शुभ फल को धारण करने में असमर्थ रहते हैं।
